My Dear Sir
I have concluded to address you with a few lines in regard to a little case that happened here a few days ago in regard to the Postal matters. There was a Gentleman arrived here from Washington city with some charges against Mr. W.P. Tanner Post. Master at this Place. I was called in and the Gentleman questioned me with a few words in regard to Mr. Tanner character, and I answered the questions and left the Room. And now it is rumored through the town that I informed the Gentleman that Mr. Tanner was as good a Union Man as my self. And I think the rumor false for I have been in the U.S. Army under Genl. Popes and was Transfered from your corps to Genl Sherman's and I dont think Mr. Tanner as Loyal as my self its true I was the applicant for the Post Office and would like to have something of the kind as I have been unable to do hard work since I was blown up on the steamer Sultana, the parties that signed the application all denied there signature Mr. Danforth the Bureau agent at this place Said
