Colonel:
The receipt to day of a letter from Dr. Graves of Uniontown referred to me by you calls me to say. 
1st That I believe Dr. Graves to be of that class of Republicans who are now urging the colored people to distrust and prescribe all northern men, and of which Mr. Speed is the leader in Perry Co.
2d That I believe Dr. Graves was aware of an application having been made for the appointment of Mr. Williams, who lives lives near his place (a northern man) for Bureau Agent, for Perry Co, and probably did not think him fitted because of his being a Northerner.
I do most cheerfully recommend the appointment of Mr. B.R. Thomas as Justice of the Peace of Uniontown Beat Perry Co. Vice. Past. Christian resigned but I cannot find sufficient reason to change my
