The freedmen on my plantation are anxious to know of me my prospect to pay them the wages due them. I have made a fair crop of corn & cotton  They have worked faithfully for me & I am anxious they should be paid now  This is my condition in 1865. I bought the Plantation from Judge Ghohon of the state of Virginia payable in 1, 2 & 3 years he has a lien on the crop to insure the payment  now the price of cotton will not enable me to pay the Hands & the amount due on the Plantation  There is, a plenty made to pay for Provisions & Labor & leave a balance to apply to the Payment of land but under my contract with Judge Ghohon his debt comes
