Dear Sir
Last night (Dec 21st) at a meeting of our U.L. about 1 mile from Camden we were suddenly startled by the call of the Sentinel to come out but before we could get to his assistance we heard the report of a Revolver and going out found that the sentinel had been shot through the head, after inquiring what all this meant we were told that there were six white men came and managed to pass the first guard of whom they enquired if he could tell them the position of the two white mean (meaning Capt. W. Henderson and myself) and as he could not tell them he approached the second sentinel who ordered them to halt and the leader of the gang (namely Capt Anderson) went
