On Thursday 12th Dec inst. in Turpentine Beat Tallapoosa County Ala, on the farm owned by J.W. McClendon, John T Humber (white) Shot with a pistol a freedman by the name of Dick Wilson, - the ball sundering the spinal column, of which wound [?] Dick died on Sunday night following. The dificulty arose in regard to a Settlement. (Humber having had Dick employed on the farm named for the present year) and took place in the presence of Wm. Jones, H F Smith and William Brewer an acting Justice of the peace. Brewer made no effort to preserve the peace nor to have Humber arrested after the murder. Humber remained on the farm until Sunday morning 15th inst Sent his trunk to Cuseta Ala, which was expressed to Milled Grove Gro, and left on horseback - supposed - his Bro R C Humber's of Putnam Gro.
