My whereabouts is 45 miles from Demopulas.  Whose Brvt Maj Pierce is Sup of Freedmen on 28 miles from Tuscaloosa whose Capt Peck are Supt Freedmen on

Freedmen can not get there rights ==} in making contracts for labor = in my region being so far from an agent on the 29th July 1865 Lt. Col Thomas 93 Illn Vol that commanding Post Gainesville gave me a Paper to see after the interest of Freedmon in my region &c I have advised Directed & used every endeaver possible all of which I was satisfied was only advice on my part to Freedman and as far as I could have made whites employing them pay them tho min 8 out of 10 cases Freeman has not received there dues = Simply for the fact there was no agent near to see after this matter Maj Gen Howard Gen Sup wrote me on the 17th Decr 1866 there should be some satisfactory arrangement Said he would write you.
