All expressed acquiescence in these views, though there was an evident-disposition on the part-of som colored people which I believe to have been engendered and fostered by improper advisers, to think that their course should have been more strongly sustained by this office. I can only say that I acted in the light of the best judgement I had.

There have been no further disturbances of which I have heard. 

Mayor Withers promptly directed the arrest of all the white persons implicated in the Sunday affair, and particularly of the man who struck the blow above mentioned.

All the parties concerned not having been found this morning the investigation into the facts of the matter before the Mayor's Court lies over until to-morrow morning.

I have thought it necessary to issue an order a copy of which is respectfully enclosed.

I have thus hastily, but I believe fully placed before you the facts of this matter as far as I could gleam them for careful investigation.
