General:-
I have the honor to report that yesterday the examination with regard to the disturbance I have brought to your attention took place before the Mayor of the City and in my presence.
The result was the fining of one white man, named Torrents, (who struck the colored man Thomas on his last attempt to enter the car) three colored men and one colored woman who were proved to have taken active part in the Sunday disturbance.
The statement of the case in my letter of 15th inst is I believe, substantially correct, and enters sufficiently into details. I however make these corrections:- There was no attack upon the car by the colored people, and it is a matter of great doubt as to whether the whites or blacks commenced the throwing of brick bats. My own impression is that the first throwing was by some white boys who were near the difficulty. Thomas was struck, not by a bat as I stated, but by a white man with his fist. This was the man Torrents - a disreputable loafer about this city.
