Mobile, Ala. April 19th 1867

Affidavit of George Washington in the matter of the State vs R B Thomas

George Washington makes oath and says that on the 14th day of this month about one o'clock in the city of Mobile he was walking up Government Street in this city  That he saw a car standing in the street and R. B. Thomas seated in the car and and the passengers leaving the car
That the Driver removed his [[strikethrough]] car [[/strikethrough]] horses and tied them near the sidewalk- and a considerable number of people were collected both white and black. That Thomas got out of the Car and walked to the south side of the Street where some colored people were standing, and that the white people immediately rused into the car, That Thomas went back to the car and preceded to get in the car and That Thomas was knocked down by one Thomas Torrance and the white people immediately rushed upon Thomas when Thomas was relieved by some of the colored men- and the white people immediately began to throw Brickbats at the colored men. That the Colored men returned the "Brickbats," Then the colored men immediately to go down "Govt" Street  That Thomas was arrested by a policeman  That Policeman told him to leave the
