Mobile April 19th 1864
Affidavit Lewis Lucien in the matter of the State as RB Thomas
Lewis Lucien makes oath & says that on the 14th day of the month about one oclock he was proceeding up Gosh Street in the city of Mobile that on arriving at Hamilton he saw one R.B. Thomas seated in the car which was standing in the streets the horses of said being tied to [strikethrough]said[/strikethrough] near the sidewalk. That he saw said Thomas get out of the car and crossed over to the south sidewalk where a number of colored men were standing. That immediately after Thomas got out of the car a number of white men from the opposite side of the street rushed to the car and that said Thomas returned to the car, and old white man pushed Thomas away saying you cannot ride in this car. That one Thomas Terrance stepped up saying "Lookout I will settle like the negros hath" and knocked said Thomas down. [strikethrough]That some colored men[/strikethrough] and a number of white men immediately rushed upon said Thomas and immediately afterwards [strikethrough]the[/strikethrough] a number of Brickbats were thrown at Thomas. That the said Thomas was released by a number of colored men who immediately withdrew, throwing a number of the Brickbats back. That the colored were followed
