Sir,

Anthony David, a freedman of this (Calhoun) County, states that he was employed by Maj. Gen J H Wilson, USA. Comdg. Ill. Cavlry. in /64 & /65- That on 6th July /65 he has a settlement at Macon Ga. when the ballance due read $60.00- for which he received a note signed by Geo. W Johnson, purveyor at Maj Gen. Wilson's Head Qrs.- an exact copy of which is herewith enclosed, marked Exhibit No 1 -
At same time said Johnson gave him a paper, without date or signature, instructing him here to [[?]] his letters, a true copy of which is herewith enclosed, marked Exhibit No 2.  On 10th. April last said Anthony, laid these papers before me, and at his request. I addressed a letter to Gen. Wilson, at Shawneetown Ill, requesting [[strikethrough]] information as to Johnsons - to which an answer has just come to hand, from Gen. Wilson, a true copy of which is herewith enclosed marked Exhibit No 3.- 
Anthony says he is not satisfied with the result of his enquiries, or application for pay - and requests that the case be submitted to your consideration
