On the 27th day of December 1865 Daniel House (a freedman) was arrested & brought before me (I acting at that as Justice of the Peace, & still am) on a charge for an assault with intent to kill. The assault alleged to have been commited upon the persons of Albert Storrs & Jim Campbell (Freedmen) I examined all the Testimony & after hearing the witnesses & giving the case as fair impartial & mature consideration as I was capable, I came to the conclusion that there did not exist probably cause of the offence having been committed. Therefore I discharged the prisoner. The afterwards appeared at the next term of the Circuit Court for Autauga County, that being our county (Elmore not having been made) The Grand Jury at court investigated the case and came to the same conclusion as myself & no True Bill
