State of Alabama} Dell County} Testimony of Witnesses in the case of Alex. Smith vs. S. T. Starr Wm Adcock John Adcock Plaintiff claiming possession of the following named minors, being his children - to wit - Jane, Columbus, Luna, Gordon and Jesse Abraham Bedell Being duly sworn answers that Alex Smith, the Plaintiff, stated to witness [[strikethrough]] that [[illegible]] [[/strikethrough]] the last week in February of the year 1867 that he had gotten into a difficulty with Mr. S. T. Starr and had left his employ and had secured for himself a home with Mr. Crawford. That in a week or two after he left Mr Starr's he went to Starr's house, called him out and made friends with him and [[strikethrough]] had [[/strikethrough]] hired two of his children, Jane and Columbus to Mr. Starr for this year one for fifty dollars, the other for Seventy five dollars. Some three days after the above conversation Plaintiff then told witness that he had altered his mind and concluded to not let Mr. Starr keep the children. He also stated that the children were then at Mr Starrs, had been there ever since he had hired them to the said Starr and further more Plaintiff stated that
