I wrote yesterday in explanation of Gen. Howard's telegram and this morning, your letter having been just received, I am directed to write again. Mr. Nettleton, if he did not state that the meat was actually in Mobile, certainly left that information on Gen Howard's mind, and that it was ready for delivery as early as the 20th of May; he however admitted that a part of it was stopped in New Orleans on account of your report to receive the first consignment. But according to Capt. Arthur's statement no meat at all has been offered by Nettleton. Had this been known here, the
