having been issued by Gen Pope dismissing him has never reached here, and may be witheld Somewhere, it ought to be looked into and he at once turned out as it is a Shame to have The Government represented by such perjured villians - He is very distasteful indeed to the Col'd folks and they would rejoice to have him releived, he can be bought up for 5$ and no man will ever be brought to a fair & equitable settlement with his laborers who will fee him liberally- I am not actuated in this matter by any personal motive but because I esteem it my duty as an Officer of the Government and I must ask you and urge it, that you at once see Gen Pope with this letter and tell him that it is absolutely important to the Freedman and poor whites of our County, that Danforth should be removed and an honest, sober reliable gentleman put in his place- Should the General want any proof of what I say it shall be forwarded without delay. Please see him immediately and lay the facts before him that his previous order may be Complied with. Something has prevented it- Write to me at your Convenience. Yours truly.
