Dear Sir,
an other horrible assassination was perpetrated in the county on yesterday, about 12 or 15 miles from this, as Mr. M T. Crossland, & Mr. Brunson and his son was coming to town, Crossland & Young Brunson was Shot from their Horses by some persons in ambush on the side of the road, old Mr. Brunson fearing his time would be next rode on to town as fast as his horse could carry him, Crossland is one of our members of the Legislator, & Brunson is for Pickens Co, they were on their way here to take stage to Montgomery. Mr. Brunson left this morning by private conveyance for Montgomery, & you can learn all the particulars from him, if he is not murdered before he gets there. not a motion had been made by the Citizens of Crew Officers to arrest the murderer, or go and look after the murdered men, and up to this time I have not been able to learn a word from the sirs since Mr. Brunson came in (over)
