Sir;

I have the honor of making the following communication respecting the building for Freedmen's schools which it is proposed to erect in Selma Ala.

The American Missionary Association which has been assisting in the support of schools at that point has purchased a suitable side for a permanent school building. Sometime since an appropriation was authorized by the Asst. Com. of the Bu. of $4,000.00 towards the erection of this building.

We find this sum wholly inadequate for the erection of a building of a suitable size. The Treasury of the Association is so taxed with the support of its teachers that it cannot at present make a sufficient appropriation to provide for such a building.

The plan for a school building with specifications is herewith submitted for your inspection.

The estimated cost is $10,000.00 exclusive of basement of plastering. We would therefor respectfully request that an additional appropriation of $5,000.00
