Dear Sir. Will you be so kind - as to hear me for my cause this one time? I lost all I had in the war. Sold my land & all my stock took confederate money and it died in my hands. I then made sacrifice of little things and moved to West Point & here I labored as teacher until taken sick and I with nearly all my Family have been confined to our beds perhaps half of and time since the chills first taken hold of us; I made a contract with a friend as I thought for this year as a favor, but first before Christmas he backed from it. and I have sought for a home faithfully but find none. I think the reason is that of my having taught a Colored School. My once friends have abandoned me on that account. I am in great poverty and out of business. Br. Charles Caldwell thinks he could aid me in getting all my sons in business if I could get to Atlanta. and I think so to. I have 10 in Family and I am not able to pay transportation to that city. Suffer me therefore to ask your Kindness to give me & Family with my little household A transportation to said city. I have two sisters and other good friends there and as my children are to feeble
