In reference to my communication of 15" inst. requesting transportation for would be emigrants to Liberia as far en route as Savannah, Ga., and the endorsement thereon of April 16", I have the honor to state that as the emigrants leave here in about eight days; it is now too late to procure further transportation. The passes already received were sent to this office direct from the Sec. of the Am. Col. Society at Washington and may suffice. No application was made from this office except through the Asst. Commr.

No encouragement or inducements have been thrown out from this office to any freedmen to emigrate; but understanding that it was customary for the Bureau to assist them after they had fully
