Judge Busteed subsequently met me, and of his own accord asked the cause of any appearing in his court on the first day of the term. I stated that certain parties in New York and Mobile, conjointly endeavoring to make me responsible for certain moneys seized by military order, had garnished me through his court.

The judge asked me if I had employed a lawyer. I told him that I had not that my acts were entirely official and in pursuance of orders. He then said "Major you need not employ a lawyer. I will take care of your interests" or words to that effect.

I called to see the Judge after receipt of your letter but he has left for Montgomery.

Very respectfully
Your Obdt. servant.
