Sir:

I have the honor to enclose copies of letters from this office dated May 13th and June 9th, addressed to the School Board of Mobile County, in consequence of which said Board has passed certain resolutions looking to the support of the Colored Schools. These resolutions have been forwarded by the Secretary, for the approval of the Bvt. Brig. General commanding, that the may be paid as appropriated.

In the expectation that the new State Constitution will shortly go into effect the Board has take no action for the coming school year beginning about Oct 15th. Should expectations regarding the constitution fail of realization it may be confidently relied upon that upon the opening of the next term the Board will assume proper share of responsibility.
