Capt. J. F. McGogy.
Sub Asst. Com. Bureau. R.F. & A.L.
Greenville Ala.

Sir,
I am informed that your clerk has resigned, and that you are without any assistance in your office.
I would respectfully request the situation, I was clerk in the Adjutant's Office U.S.A. at Post of Buffalo and Ft. Niagra, in the year 1868. I have been for some time past teaching (Colored) School in Lownds County. I am at present teaching in this place, but my family being large and my expence is necessarily greater than the income from my school. Two of my daughters are experienced and competent teachers will conduct the school in a succesful manner.
Should I be so succesful as to obtain employment in your office,
I can take the "Test Oath" and will spare no effort to render perfect satisfaction to the Department,
