Testimony in this case, taken in the Committal trial West Point Troup County Georgia
June 13th 1868

George [[Merrith?]] Being Sworn on the part of the State Says he did hear orders [[strikethrough]] to [[/strikethrough]] not go to the house (Tatum House /House of accused) with any unfriendly feeling or demonstrations but on the contrary to persuade them that they were there friends  He says that the shooting was done after there approach on the house the second time  He says after they got up to the bars he heard some orders from Maj Hunter which was before the Shooting said orders was to tell the party that Maj Hunter was there from West Point with a squad to defend them  He said that he heard the orders himself and that the party in the house was close
