Hester, and (Defendant) Sworn
Mr Jones ordered me to leave about 12 O.C. PM on Monday. Mr Jones told me to go to the house and he would settle with me if he owed me anything he would pay it, and if I owed him anything, I must pay it. I told Mr Jones if I owed him anything I would pay it, if I had to work it out. I started to leave at that time. Miss Eliza Jones advised me to go back to work and get my crop, went back and remained until Saturday, on Saturday Mr Jones and Myself had some words. I told Mr Jones, I would leave, he told me to leave, but he would have me brought back. Esquire (her son and a minor) told me Mr Jones said leave him and let him work out what I owed him. I refused to do it.
The Testimony being read to her, she says I did not say I told Mr Jones I would leave, before he told me to come, if I did, did not intend it. She further stated that she did not go to the house when told to do so by Mr Jones, but sent her son.
