Dear Sir,

In reply to your communication of 27th Dec last; asking for information as to the actual evidence & probable future state of such want of Employment, and consequent suffering in my County, permit me to say that in my opinion, unless some very immediate action, in the way of relief be rendered to the laboring classes and indigent poor of the County, suffering will inevitably follow. 
Owing to the great want of bacon & the scarcity of pork the planters are unable to employ laborers to cultivate their lands & to the reduced prices of the great staple of cotton, for which the Soil of the County is peculiarly adapted, the producers are unable to supply themselves with
