I would respectfully report that at 9 o clock PM 2d inst at Shelby Springs Shelby County on the Selma Rome and Dalton R.R one Henderson J Moss a freedman while attending to his duties about his house was shot twice, and died on the following day. [[?]] he had no difficulty with any person, the affair is a perfect mistery, and there is no clue as to who the guilty parties are.

To day is the first intimation I have had of the difficulty. The wife of the murdered man, reported in person to my Office. I have written to Judge of Probate, and County solicitor, urging them to furnish me with the particulars in this case, with as little delay as possible, also why an inquest was not held over the body.
