obtain any measure of Justice before the Juries or Justices of the Peace in this county so far as my experience goes
 
There has been three negro men murdered most foully just East of Freedonia [[strikethrough]] in the [[/strikethrough]], all in the same neighborhood and one shot desperately three times and you hear men justify and praise the act and I have heard no one but myself condem [[strikethrough]] the act [[/strikethrough]] it. No one has been arrested therefor nor no process taken, and the supposed murderers petted and carressed, while this state of things last how can freedmen and timid men be got to go to the polls or become a public prosecutor Is the arm of right and justice paralized or does it sleep to renew his work with swift and certain justice, - 

I do not wish my name used in the above connexion for the reason that I would be worse proscribed than I am now and beyond doubt would suffer from the torch and [[prison? poison?]] Yet I pledge myself to put the proper parties in possession of sufficient evidence to make good all I have above penned
