I would respectfully represent that owing to the low state of my wife's health, my personal attention is required at home. I would further represent that in view of the fact of my having lost all of my property by the late war. (mainly on account of my adherence to the government of the United States) I respectfully ask to be relieved as Sub Asst Comr. BRF & AL Sub Dist of Opelika, and assigned to duty as Asst Sub Asst Comr. office at Wedowee Randolph Co Ala.

I would not under ordinary circumstances ask such a favor, but actual necessity compels me to do so. I am left almost peniless with a helpless family entirely dependent upon my exertions for support.
