Sir, I have to forward a cold blooded murder, of a young man about 19 years old, 5 3/4 feet high. By name Jefferson Proctor, He came to town to day got drunk abused Democrats and Republicans alike, went into Varners (col) grocery, drank and tried to shoot him, about, 5 1/2 oclock  P.M, he went, off towards home when about, 1/4 mile from town he met with an old negro named Cherry leading a horse from the tan yard to Mr Kersklin far where he worked asked him if he belonged to the League getting an affirmative answer he told him to take the horse out of his way as he did not want to shoot it but but him. The negro being frightened and near his employers house let the horse go and started across a hill. Proctor firing, but missing—Proctor rode on then a little way. Went, around the road towards Mr Kerklins house but fired again and hit him in the left wrist. Cherry then run without speaking when the third ball. entered under the left shoulders and lodged near the skin on the right, side near the stomach
