Bureau Refugees, Freedmen, and Abandoned Lands, 
Washington, D.C., January 8 1868.

Mr. Pierce Burton is hereby appointed an Agent in the Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen, and Abandoned Lands, State of Alabama at a salary of One hundred and twenty five dollars per month

This appointment is made under the provisions of "An Act to continue in force and amend an Act to establish a Bureau for the relief of Freedmen and Refugees, and for other purposes." It will take effect Jan'y 1st 1868 and remain in force until revoked by orders from this Office.

The oath required by law will be taken, and filed in the office of the Asst. Commissioner of the State of Alabama.
