General:

The receipt of your reference of the communication of Bvt. Maj. James Gillette, Sub-Asst. Comr &c at Mobile,- of date April 10 1868, requesting transportation for certain freedpeople desiring to emigrate to Liberia, is respectfully acknowledged.

In reply, I am directed by the Commissioner, to inform you, that upon an application made by Mr. Wm Coppinger, Cor. Secy., Am. Col. Society, transportation had previously been issued for John A. Steward, nineteen (19) adults, and five (5) children; as the communication of Maj. Gillette requested transportation
