Presuming that the State Government went into operation yesterday on the day before I take it for granted that all "provisional officers" & all persons appointed under the re-construction acts, went but at the same time, yet they still continue to act & to charge Freedman heavy costs, and fees.
 
Yesterday a Freedwoman told they were going to charge her $5. to get married and $2 1/2 for a license, & $2 1/2 for something else. I told her that I did not believe the license would be good for anything & that if she would come to me I would marry her.
 
Yesterday I had occasion to request a Mr Ed. Glover J.P. of Green County to remit me a case for re-hearing, & to day again another case he decided yesterday - in which he had fined the defendant the costs $22.90 in the case of three stolen sucking pigs, an old matter [[strikethrough]] in [[/strikethrough]] which [[strikethrough]] the pigs [[/strikethough]] had been settled up & pigs returned by the purchaser four months ago
 
Could not your Governor appoint all Freedmens Bureau Agents Notaries public under the old law, until an election should be had, on condition that they charge no fees in
