Office Chief Quarter Master State of Alabama, BUREAU REFUGEES, FREEDMEN, AND ABANDONED LANDS. Montgomery, Ala., January 26" 1869. [[stamp]] THE NATIONAL ARCHIVES OF THE UNITED STATES [[/stamp]] Col Edwin Beecher Bvt Lt Col U.S.V. and Asst Commissioner State of Alabama Bu RF & AL Montgomery Ala Colonel; I have the honor to state, that on the 31st ult. the business of this Office was incomplete and unfinished, and to insure the correct winding up and settling the same, the services of Messrs John H. Walker and W.J. Anderson — late Clerks in this Department of the Bureau — were retained to finish the Returns &c &c, required of this Office. Their services, for fifteen (15) days, were necessarily needed; and I would most respectfully request that they receive the compensation deserved.
