Colonel:
I am directed by Bvt. Maj. General O.O. Howard U.S.A. Commissioner &c., to enclose herewith check No. 5950 in the Assistant Treasurer of the United States. Newyork. dated Washington, D.C. April 13th 1869. and drawn by Major George Bell C.S. U.S.A. payable to George Roper Co. "F" 44th U.S.C. Troops, [[on?]] order in the sum of thirty-one dollars and twenty five cents ($31.25) being the amount of his claim against the Government for commutation for rations while held as prisoner of war.

The discharge certificate of the soldier is also enclosed.

Claims forwarded by D.C. Rugg Esq. late Agent of the Bureau of Huntsville. Ala.
