Dear Doris

I had a nice letter from your mother a day or so ago and was glad to hear from her. In a post script at the end in pencil she wrote that your father was getting much worse mentally & physically. I suppose she wrote it just before she sealed it up and after he had seen the rest of the letter She probably has to be very careful not to let him know what she thinks of his condition so I will be equally careful in what I write to her for fear he may see it. When you see her at Xmas time you tell her why I take no notice of what she tells me about him will you? It is a terrible state of affairs for her and I certainly do feel so sorry for her. It must be worrying you greatly. When any-one gets into that condition, death comes as a blessing. I wish I had Maude's temperament. I
