Dear Sidney,

Ralph sent me a telegram telling me of your mother's death and I am writing to let you know you have my sympathy. It will not be any help to you though. Time is the only thing that will. Ralph said it was caused by shock and I do not know whether she had some accident or whether he meant a stroke of apoplexy. It seems to me I remember people used to call apoplexy a shock. Probably that is what he meant Well I guess she was quite willing to go. Life could not have been very rosy for her and that may make you feel less sad than you otherwise would. It has seemed to me that for the last two years I have had to lose so many friends & relatives. Cousin Blanche, (Corey Holyoke's mother) died last summer. It was a great shock to me. We had corresponded constantly
