8. QUILLEUTE and QUINIAULT. The Quilleute are Chimakuan family. The Quiniault are Salishan family. Location: Both are located in northwest Washington State, on the coast. The Quiniault Reservation is at Grenville. They intermarry, and are closely related in the fishing industry. Materials: Both use the same materials. Foundation: cedar bark, strips of pine root and hemp rushes. Grass for weft. The colored grasses, used in designs, are made by steeping the roots of plants with bark of alder. They make a paint of blue clay.. THOMPSON and FRASER RIVER. Both are of the Salishan family. Location: British Columbia. Southern interior, mostly along the east of Coast Range in valleys of Thompson, Fraser, and Nicola Rivers. Materials: User the same materials. Roots of cedar(thuja-gigontea) sewed with splints of cedar. Decorated with strips of bark and grass. Imbricated weave. Roots are dyed red with bark of alder, and black by soaking in black mud, or with fern roots. CLATSOP. Clatsop are of the Chinookan family. Location: South side of the Columbia River, and along the cost to Tillamook Head, Oregon. The Remnant of the tribe later taken to Grande Ronde Reserve. They are [[practically?]] extinct.
