Dear folks,

Contrary to your prediction, we are in Chicago now! I can see how you might have thought that exam would prevent our trip, however: Jack's oral was only yesterday. Fortunately, he passed. Not so true other boys who took it that day, and he had quite a shock yesterday evening when a friend remarked to him, "Oh, did you know that everybody who took the oral today flunked?" "Not one," said Jack. I and a friend of his were sitting opposite the closed conference room waiting for him to come out yesterday. He did, finally, & we three sat to wait the verdict. (The story gave that the three examiners discuss the evening's bridge party for a while in order to appear to be deliberating). It was about ten minutes before they opened the door and came out, three smiles and three outstretched hands. I wish I'd had the camera!
It snowed lightly on out trip up here & is suddenly turning quite cold. We waited until the mass of the University trek to Chicago was gone by & then had a quick trip. Grandpa is looking over my Russian text. He had tutored in Russian since he came to this country. He is quite helpful on the pronunciation, which is still poor in my case.
We took the Eureka vacuum cleaner today. I don't think you quite understand that we need to have it because of Jack's strong allergy to dust.
