Dear folks,
Well, we had an eventful weekend. Saturday AM we drove up to Chicago & purchased gifts for me (from Jack's mother & by Jack). He bought me a lovely compact & earrings --- and enjoyed picking them out! I bought his sister-in-law a small gift. Sunday we celebrated Shirley ↑[[sister-in-law]]'s birthday & mine, & also the birthday of an old friend of Marguerite's. Marguerite made a festive dessert, a schaum torte (german). I had never seen one before, have you? It was made soley of 12 egg whites, sugar & baking powder, baked 30 minutes & topped with strawberries, then meringue, & then whipped cream!! Sunday we visited the museum of Science & Industry, seeing too much advertising display (as of auto companies) but alot more fine educational exhibits. We will go there again -- it is immense. We returned Sunday night.
This week has been very hectic. My math teacher has been a dog & given too many homework problems, promised a test on top of all that & broke down & didn't give it : we were obviously going too fast. Also we spent an evening with the Leondises; Paul & Mary will leave town for the new life this week end & Alex was down for

Had to reopen to fix up several things. There were four [[?]] left on page, and several other errors. It should not have been "Completed" before. The part about shirley’s birthday seems off. Also, right after I think it is, “also the birthday of an old friend of marjuerites”
