Dear folks,

Haven't heard from you as yet but will start this letter as I wait for Jack to get home from work. He started Monday with the Control Systems Lab. and works from 8 to 3 every day.

We had a good trip to Chicago, although until the last minute we weren't sure Jack would get the car fixed in time. It seemed the manifold was worn through and we bought a new one and he replaced it. It was his first work on the car, without a real manual, and it was lots harder than he had expected. However, it was finally on, the carborator cleaned, and timing set and now it works fine. Saves a lot to do it yourself, and he intends to keep this up.

In Chicago we picked up the stainless and I bought a few summer clothes on Saturday a.m. Then Jack and Alex and I went down to the beach and they swam and sailed an old boat of Jack's. Saturday night Alex showed slides at Marguerite's and Jim and Shirley came over, also Fred Davis, another old friend of Jack's. It was a fine evening. On Sunday Fred, his new girl Inga, Alex, and our friends the Steve Davises all went to the Brookfield Zoo, which is a fine outdoor zoo with lots of land and shady trees everywhere. We must have walked five miles and almost saw all of it. Then we had dinner at the Steve Davises and drove back to Urbana.

Our crawfish are devouring each other. We have gone out for a few hours and come back to find a completely empty shell on the floor of the aquarium. We [[strikethrough]] 2 [[/strikethrough]] feed them a lot but they seem to find crawfish their favorite food. From 11 we have 7.
