Dear folks,

Got your card from La. today. Glad to hear the weather isn't bad. You certainly left D.C. in time!

We never can keep a pen. First we left it in Chicago & Jack's mother had to send it back. Then it went to the laundry in a shirt -- went thru the washing machine & came out O.K., ink fainter. Now it is "off" again.

Penelope had a dreadful experience Sunday last.. & so did we. She woke us at 6 yowling. Sleepily, I went to put her in the kitchen, but she rushed past me into the bedroom & lept on the bed. Her howl was deep & rich & for a moment I thought she was is heat. Then Jack turned the light on & we saw that she was frothing at the mouth. She vomited on the bed & rushed off like crazy. Going out into the kitchen, Jack found the trouble; she had knocked down a jar of turpentine.
