Dear folks,

This is the last day of classes and Jack has his first final Friday, his last in a week from Friday. I begin work at the new job a week from today. (Incidentally, to answer your question, there is a University employment system which places you.)

I guess I didn't mention all of the things you sent me for xmas. The head scarf is a popular item in Champaign, and has been one ever since I've been around here, coming earlier here than in D.C., I think. I can always use a slip, in answer to that one, and the pearl necklace looks particularly well on the brown wool jersey dress you gave me.

Jack should get his M.S this February.

By the way, Dad, do you think you could find out something for me that's up your line? I'd like to know with what shrubs or trees the famous London maze is planted. Someday I'd like to grow a maze. They can't be too slow-growing.... Also, on the subject of horticulture (which you aren't one of), do you know anything about the "sunburst locust"?

I think we will stay in Champaign during the mid-term "vacation". Jack will get to work on studying for his prelims. We will probably throw a party after the last exam, to blow off in order to be able to settle down to hard work.
