in the car of one of two friends, or on the train, as the weather and other variables suggest. We may take Penelope. The vet will end a proper box. Jack's mother will be away, as you know, and two other friends we wanted to see will leave town, but we are invited to dinner with the Mrazes and will see a lot of Jack's brother and wife, whom we haven't seen much of. We will return on Monday evening.

We have out cards strung out on a long string, and I will need another before long. Our hand-made cards have prompted hand-made cards by at least two other couples who wouldn't have otherwise done so, at great trouble to them since they were drawn by and rather than reproduced. We got a fine Pogo card from one, quoting the famous Christmas carol:

Deck us all with Boston Charlie,
Walla walla wash, an' Kalamazoo!
Nora's freezin' on the trolley,
Swaller dollar cauliflower, alley-ga-roo!
Don't we know archaic barrel,
Lullaby lilla boy Louisville Lou!
Trolley Molly don't love Harold,
Boola boola Pensacoola, Hullabaloo!

The other hand-made card was of a little locomotive drawn by a friend who is crazy about trains, with suitable verses.

Wouldn't it be nice if Jack could have taken me and we could have traveled via Washington instead of Chicago!

Wishing you a very cheerful Christmas, and wishing we could be there.

Love,
Doris
