Dear folks,

We received your big box safely a day or two ago. It seemed a pity to wait until the 25th, but of course we shall. We won't either of us have close relatives around: Marguerite went with Grandpa down to Louisiana for Christmas. He is pretty old and has been sick a bit this year. In spite of that he has been painting steadily. As a matter of fact, he got a severe sore throat while absorbed in catching an autumn scene on too chilly a day recently; I believe he is just over it. He enjoys La. scenes and will surely come back with some. He is 87.

We did make our own cards, which you should have by now. We got photographic paper and used the physics darkroom Saturday afternoon last; it was interesting work for the first hour or so -- but took three hours. It was very inexpensive -- 75 cards for $1.80. I don't know where you can find such charming cards for so little!

It [[strikethrough]] was [[/strikethrough]] is quite warm in our apartment, as I believe I have mentioned. My office is by far colder, in fact to the extent that I have to wear two sweaters there most of the time.

Penelope came into heat a week after being pronounced cured. The vet advised against having her mated, although he wasn't too worried, and so we will wait until next time. She is about over it now after three days of loud yowling. It wasn't as bad as we expected; we didn't lose any sleep over it.

Thank you for the note from Connie. I had sent her a card with news.
