picture itself); I did well on this (A); 4 plasticene "free form", for which I also did pretty well (B). There isn't much instruction except for the most formal & meaningless part in design ...it is mostly instinctive, & I feel sorry for the many who don't get it. I do fairly well.

In Drawing we have had only 1 jury-graded work, but have had numerous teacher-graded papers. We meet more often on the same subject than in Design, where the time is split between sculpture and painting, having 3 full periods a week. We draw at first with pencil (on large pad), now the instructor is encouraging the use of wash,(b&w), ink, charcoal, and conte crayon, altho' I am trying these media out in my sketchbook first. We drew, first, and briefly, geometrical solids in line only, added [[strikethrough]]shad [[/strikethrough]] values, & proceeded to vases, bowls, & finally still lifes consisting of those & natural objects (sticks, flowers), with, of course, drapery. I [[strikethrough]] have [[/strikethrough]] entered the class with trepidation (same people had such technique, at first), but now am a B student verging on better things. Our instructor encourages about 10 pages of sketchbook work a week, and altho' I regarded it as a chore at first, I now see how important it can be and devote more like 20 pages to it.
There really isn't too much instruction (no time!) for a class of 25 students. You learn more form fellow students. Be seeing you.
Love,
Doris
