As for Art classes, I enjoy them more some days than others, & do a bit of work outside of class. On Tuesday & Thursday I am in Drawing from 9 - 12 and Design from 1 - 4. On Sat. I am in Drawing from 9 - 12. We walk by projects, each usually lasting a week. When we started off, I did badly in drawing as compared with others, but now I am doing better than average. In Design, which I enjoy more, I am doing fairly well, above average, & enjoying myself more than many. The Art school at Illinois is a very good professional school, and in most of its specialization areas a successful graduate (many are flunked out) has a choice of jobs... there are more jobs than applicants... because of the school’s reputation. There is much more [[crossed-out]] of an [[/crossed-out]] competition here than in the popular Corcoran course, I would judge, so that individual pleasure in work is always tampered by desire to succeed in class.

We have our first algebra exam today.
Jack has been studying very hard & late at night, which seems to be the pattern for grad students in physics.
Love, Doris
