Dear folks,
[25 Feb. 1955]

At present writing we are still in 506 E. Healey, & will be until our friend Murray & his wife go to D.C. (when the army calls). Yes, we do all our own cooking in.

We had an unfortunate experience last weekend - on the way to Chicago the car broke down.. it overheated. We limped to South side Chicago, & it is still in a garage there. The bill won’t be great, but it is a nuisance being without it. We won’t go up this weekend but will wait until [[crossed out]] the [[/crossed out]] Murray has moved, if possible. Meanwhile the garage sort of has us at its mercy, altho’ it can’t do much harm because it is an A-A-A affiliate.

My Design course so far consists of drawing pleasant abstract shapes, making montages of them (colored paper) & using paints (tempera) in the future -- all with the intent of developing originality and knowledge of good design. The drawing course has begun with perspective on geometric solids, proceeded to line drawings of bottles & jugs, & will shortly introduce value & color. Then we will paint still lifes all the rest of the time. Next semester we sketch statues, stuffed monkeys, & other still lifes. The math course is not Calculus, merely College Algebra.

Love, Doris
