Dear folks,

It is still Indian summer, up to 80 degrees today.  The leaves around here aren't too beautiful due to the fact that there are no red maples or sour gums, and also because the wind velocity has been rather high.

Jack has caught the intestinal grippe from me, indicating an incubation period of 2 weeks about; I guess I got my germ in Chicago.  He was quite sick last night and "slept" on the couch, which is a good single bed since it has no back or sides.  Jack installed a flip-switch on the light cord at easy reach from lying down, so it is a good bed to fall asleep reading on.  Now he is going to hear a lecture by his new boss, a lecture which he requested.  This new man, who takes Frauenfilde's place, is named Lipkin; he is an Israel exchange professor and a theoretical physicist, which Frauenfilde was not. Jack
