Dear folks,

Because we don't have an operating radio, we weren't aware of your heavy snowfall. I say "operating" because we have about three inoperative radios which Jack hasn't had time to fix.

We haven't had much snow here, but it had been very cold, usually below zero at night and rising to 10 - [[strikethrough]] 15 [[/strikethrough]] during the day; lately it has been pushing 15 during the day & we are assured it will reach 20 tomorow! When it couldn't [[strikethrough]] didn't [[/strikethrough]] get above 10, about 2-3 days, we couldn't slait the cow, but a few degrees more and we're off at the first crack — a peculiar phenomenon. The cold has been quite a bane, since we had to walk back & forth, day-night, on some very cold days, also Jack broke his glasses' frame like a little twig one night (I broke them, really) out walking; my Russian (lady) teacher broke two pairs of glasses in one day. She didn't say how but it might well have been the cold.

Fortunately, the temperature is in the teen's today
