due to the Florida freeze peppers have rocketed to ~ 25¢ a piece, and I needed 2-3 for my dish. But some packs of two each were on sale at 10¢ a piece, so was I in luck! The dish involves very lean pork, flavored, fried, and covered with a sauce of peppers (coarse slices), vinegar & sugar, soy sauce, and, of all things, pineapple.

Didn't realize John Hersey & Mrs. Hersey were related. 

Jack would like Andersonville, I know. He also is a Civil War reader; or, any kind of war reader. I got him two huge volumes of naval history (of submarines and destroyers in W.W.II) [[strikethrough]] wh [[/strikethrough]] for Christmas, which he had long wanted.

Must get back to Russian. We are reading un-simplified Russian for the first time now, a story by Puskin, "The Queen of Spades". It's supposed to be very well known so maybe you have read it?
